What an amazing couple of weeks it’s been. I’m back home and am reflecting. Here’s a recap…
First the CD release shows at Johnny D’s Uptown Restaurant & Music Club with my awesome Boston band and my new friend Shannon McNally. I remember when I did my first late night show at Toad a few years back. I was unknown. And now to see almost 300 people come out to hear the music kind of blows my mind. THANK YOU, BOSTON!
Then on to the city that’s becoming my second home, NASHVILLE, where I played the The Bluebird Cafe with Will Kimbrough, Tommy Womack and Bonnie Bishop and then did a show at the Basement with a dream team of musicians who are band members of Emmylou and Rodney, KD Lang, Patty Griffin, etc. And they sure can play! The high point of the night for me was to see one of my greatest heroes, Rodney Crowell, in the audience. My heart be still.
Two days later, I’m in MUSCLE SHOALS, ALABAMA playing to a standing room only crowd with none other than the legendary swampers Spooner Oldham and David Hood. Shannon and her awesome band came up from Mississippi and joined in the fun!
The last leg of this trip was from Nashville to KANSAS CITY for the annual Folk Alliance International Conference, where Ryan and I spent four days handing out fresh baked chocolate chip cookies in our booth, meeting people and making music until the wee hours of the morning. Highlights included doing an official showcase with my friends Oliver Craven and Charlie Muench from The Stray Birds, getting to see Lera Lynn perform and hang with her, and getting to sit 5 feet away from THE Kim Richey in a hotel room and listen to her sing.
Thanks to may parents and my husband Ryan for all their support on this trip. We are just getting started. Miles to go before we sleep! More to come. : )
